Discover Engineering

About Discover Engineering

  • DiscoverE is a coalition providing every student with a free STEM experience and the resources, programs, and connections to improve their understanding of engineering and technology.

  • Educators, STEM volunteers, parents, students preK-12

  • Our programs and resources are built on four pillars:

    • Engineering

    • The engineering design process

    • Student centered learning

    • UN sustainability goals

  • Educators report an increase in students’ problem solving skills, confidence in their STEM abilities, and the ability to apply their math and science skills to real world problems. While students report they’re having fun!

Summer of STEM

Perfect for summer camps and out of school time programs, this free guide features five engineering activities, engineering design process prompts, video challenges, and interviews with engineers.

The Future City Competition

Middle school students work in teams with an educator and volunteer STEM mentor to create cities that exist 100 years in the future. Students present their cities via a written essay, model, and presentation with a STEM panel at competitions around the US.

DiscoverE conducted a year-long research project to find out what today’s teens and their parents think about engineering. Download this free report and learn:

  • How they view engineering and a potential career in STEM

  • What resonates and motivates them to consider engineering

Chats with Change Makers

Use these engaging 30 minute video interviews to introduce your students to 30 different engineers and technicians. Each interview is hosted by a high school student and ends with a STEM challenge.

“Students research, write, build, think and work as a team. We have lots of clubs at my school, but I think Future City is the most inclusive of all the things we try to teach our kids.”

- John Boyd, Haynes Magnet School

“I loved that both my artsy and nerdy side could be expressed throughout the Future City project.”

― 7th Grade Student, New Jersey

“DiscoverE resources allow me to engage further with students and ALSO with families.”

― Nancy Coddington, Engineers Week Volunteer, NY
